Staying FREE

How can we stay free from sin? By being captivated by His purpose and believing in who we are as defined by Christ.

“But I thank God, who always leads us in victory because of Christ. Wherever we go, God uses us to make clear what it means to know Christ. It's like a fragrance that fills the air” ~~ 2 Corinthians 2:14 (GW).

How to Live FREE

You were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only don't let this freedom be an opportunity to indulge your selfish impulses, but serve each other through love" ~~ Galatians 5:13 (CEB).

Once Jesus Christ has set us free, is it possible to live FREE from the bondages that have held us down for so long? Are we able to experience the full life in Christ - a totally new way of existence?

Rejection, Wounds, and Generational Patterns

We come from all sorts of backgrounds, cultures, social and economic positions, sets of beliefs, religious afflictions, values, and morals. They are all based upon how and where we have been raised.  We call this our "family of origin."  Google defines family of origin this way:  the significant caretakers and siblings that a person grows up with, or the first social group a person belongs to...often a person’s biological or adoptive family.

Comparison: Shame and Guilt

Shame is one (if not the most) powerful emotion we can feel that can completely define “who we are” and "how we see ourselves in this world." Shame can attach itself to us and cause us to become isolated, to keep secrets, and suffer in silence.  Why, because we believe a narrative that we are unworthy of anything other than this.

False Expectations: “Fear and Control”

We all have expectations of what our lives should look like, what we will or will not accomplish in life, what kinds of relationships we will or will not have, even how our lives should appear to others around us - our family, friends, and coworkers. We all have these expectations of ourselves, others, and even of God.

Whom are we serving? Ourselves or God?

This morning as the sun was rising and the house was quiet, birds chirping and I picked up Oswald Chambers devotional and read the devotion for June 19th. The above paragraph jumped off the page at me, and I abruptly stopped reading to write down the entire paragraph. I thought to myself, “Do I completely and wholeheartedly serve God?

ARE YOU WILLING?

Have you ever passed a barren field where nothing seems to be growing? The field often looks sad, dry, and ugly! You may wonder, “Who would want to work in that field? What could possibly grow there?”

Have you ever felt fruitless or empty inside?  Has this feeling of despair caused you to be stuck, thinking there’s no way anything of true value could grow in your “field”?

Out of control?

This question was proposed to me last week at work in a group setting. When I heard it, my body immediately tensed up, and my mind began to race. Fear suddenly took over, and I thought, “NO WAY, I cannot do this!  I’m in control!”  After a few moments, my body and mind settled down, however; I was challenged ALL week long by this.

“Pura Vida”

The voice deep within our souls longs to be heard. Are we listening, allowing our “internal voice” to be heard?  Or have we silenced all voices other than that which is right in front of us?  Have we become “human doings” instead of “human beings”?

Be Still and Know I am God

I was on a mission to hit the gym, get back home, and then get ready for this special day! So instead of throwing out the old stinky biscuits, I decided to press on.  I thought, “No time to throw those away!”  So I stayed the course…off to the gym.

The GREAT I AM

My husband Chris and I sat together on the sand, watching our oldest son Reid take the first step and swim to the boulder. He successfully made the trek and jumped on top of the boulder as if he were king of the ocean.  His younger brother Kenan thought, “I can do this,” and of course little sister Olivia would not be left behind.  They swiftly embarked on this adventure to join their older brother.

WHO I HAVE BECOME?

We all have our stories of how trials and sufferings have shaped and molded us to into who we have become in Him today -- I call them "battle wounds and scars of the soul.” I have experienced much pain and suffering in my life, that when I reflect back to where I was and where I am today, I am humbled by His grace and mercy that brought me through.
